1) Every cut of meat at your local store started at a local farm in a healthy environment.
2) When the farmer sells the steer at the stock yard it travels thousands of miles, on packed trucks, with other animals to feed lots
3) They arrive at the feedlot and are given steroids , antibiotics, and packed together in small pins
4) Once they reach max weight, they are packed onto trucks destined for a processing facility.
5) After being processed they change hands multiple times on their way to your local store
6) Grocery stores charge between 6500-9,500 for the equivelant meat a whole steer.
7) When the farmer sold that steer they were paid around 700 dollars
8) Both the farmer and consumer are losers in this process as the middle men, and specifically, the processing facilities, are controlling the market.
THE BENEFIT OF FARM TO TABLE
Purchasing directly from the farmer will provide you with a healthier cut of meat. You will know where it came from and you will pay a fraction of the price that the grocery store charges. You will keep more of your hard earned money and you will support the farmer that put in the hard work to raise the steer.
